We are organizers fighting for collective liberation in our communities and in our workplace.

Collective Alliance Workers (CAW!) is the union of workers The Alliance for Metropolitan Stability in Minneapolis.

Collective Alliance Workers

To the members of The Alliance, coalition partners, and broader community:

The workers of The Alliance believe in what we do: fighting displacement, building power, challenging white supremacist systems, and organizing for collective liberation. Our commitment to this vision has led us to form an independent union, Collective Alliance Workers (CAW!), with support from the national Emergency Workers Organizing Committee.

We are standing up for a workplace where all Alliance staff are treated with dignity and respect. We are unionizing for the future of The Alliance, not just for a more sustainable organization for our members, but for an Alliance strong enough to apply our values internally. We stand by those values: collective power, shared leadership, community expertise, racial justice, intersectionality, intentionality, and abundance. As The Alliance website states: We are committed to uplifting community voice, elevating co-governance as a model for equitable decision-making, and disrupting inequitable power structures that uphold white supremacy.

We will build a workplace where shared leadership is seen as a strength; where our culture and structure set an example for how to transform the nonprofit industrial complex into something life-giving and empowering.

Today, we are calling on you as our community, allies, and fellow workers to stand with us by signing on to this letter of support asking our Board of Directors to voluntarily recognize our union.

In solidarity and collective power,

CAW!

Solidarity

Messages from community members standing in solidarity with CAW!

The Alliance workers are the gold standard of movement organizers and deserve immediate recognition of their union!”

“I have been a manager in a union shop of organizers for over 10 years, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Like any transformational project, it comes with challenges, and they are worth taking on.”

“I fully support the Alliance workers building power to voice their needs and grow as an organization.”
